Is it really worth it?

Industrial agriculture is a farming method that involves the mass production of animals and crops, in order to maximized product yield and profit. This method often involves genetic engineering and innovative technologies to increase the rates of production.

Sustainable agriculture is "natural" farming. This farming process gives us food that is healthy, and has not been touched by any sort of chemical. It does not harm the environment and gives farmers fair income. Although this leads to less products because of the enhanced chances of failure, while industrial agriculture lessens the rate of product failure and increases the amount of products.

Personally, I prefer sustainable agriculture. When it comes down to whether the pro's outweigh the cons or vice versa, i think that the cons of industrial agriculture outweigh the pro's and the pro's of sustainable agriculture out weigh the cons.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
PROS:
- Biodiversity
- Animals are treated well
- Workers are paid well
- Healthier for the world
- The food is grown naturally and it becomes healthier for the people who eat it
- Organic foods contain more vitamins and minerals
- Sustainable farms provide jobs for local workers

CONS:
- Less products from farms
- Organic food is often more expensive
- Food that is being farmed is determined by factors such as the weather, which affect what you can get and when

INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE
PROS:
- Food is more affordable
- There is more food for everyone else
- The chemicals used to support industrial agriculture aren't very expensive at all
- Since there is more food being made through industrial agriculture, we can afford to export more food for money

CONS:
- The pesticides that are used to support industrial agriculture can lead to larger can lead to a higher risk of cancer.
- There is a higher chance for meat to become contaminated because factories are not cleaned often.
- Most industrial agriculture operations are all about making money. They do not regard anybody's health.
- Industrial agriculture causes a lot of problems to the environment. They cause problems such as topsoil erosion, aquifer depletion and the reduction of genetic diversity. They also pollute our air, water and soil with gases, chemicals, and harmful pathogens.
- Industrial agriculture projects cause $34.7 billion worth of damage to the U.S.
- They only raise a few breeds, so biodiversity is greatly affected.

So in conclusion, I don't think that industrial agriculture is worth it. I don't think anything is worth it if it can affect your general health so much. It also causes so much harm to the world and harm to the animals as well. With sustainable agriculture, our food remains free from pesticides and anything like that. It might cost more, but in the long run I would rather pay more for my health than pay less for something to hurt me.
